My research field is the crossover between art and videogames. I am the former presenter of two TV shows on Vuzu (DSTV) called PlayR (the South African version) and The Verge, both about videogames. Both of these shows came to an end in March 2012 after a run of 4 years. The crowd was loud, a sweaty mass of hysteria, chanting for the king. Elvis! Elvis! Elvis! deafening and somewhat unsettling. But he was not Elvis. Sure, he could sing the songs, and do the moves, and don the suit, but he was not the King. Out of the shadows a silver barrel could be seen glistening as the strobe lights hit the muzzel. A flash of gunpowder. A burst of crimson from the fake kings head. Deafening silence... and from the shadows in a raspy and ghostly voice "The king has left the building". Many who saw what happened claimed it was Elvis himself, or Elvis' ghost, un happy with the way this impersonator sang 'Hound Dog'. One thing is for sure...The King is Dead, Long live the King!
